Driving along a California Freeway at night can present a dizzying array of almost Christmas tree variety of lights. Driving on city streets can be far worse. Attempting to distinguish Low-Pressure Sodium streetlights from Yellow Intersection Signals is bad enough. Add this to billboard lights, storefront lights, and the moving lights attached to your average 18-wheeler. With all this confusion, the one set of lights that are supposed to be distinguishable from all the rest are your car’s headlamps.

The chances are that you discovered your mistake or misdeed and slowed before law enforcement shined their flashing blue and red lights into your rear-view mirror.
